QE368 Resetter Instructions
For: Epson InkJet Printers
_________________________________________________________

Using the QE368 is a relatively simple task. Looking at the front of the resetter in the picture below, you can see the slots and other contours that will be used to guide the resetters 7 spring pins to the 7 contact pads on the chip printed circuit board. When you bring the the cartridge face up to the resetter you will be able to tell which contours are designed to accept your particular cartridge.

With some cartridges you may find it easier to place the ink cartridge and resetter on a flat surface and slide the resetter straight into the cartridge face, allowing the flat surface to act as another guide. With other cartridges you may find it easier to just hold them in your hands. In either case, guide the resetter straight into the face of the cartridge until the red light at the top of the resetter turns on.

The flashing red light indicates a suitable connection. Hold the resetter firmly against the cartridge for about 5 seconds. When the flashing red light at the top of the top of the resetter changes to solid green, the process is complete. The solid green light indicates that the resetter has queried the chip and received confirmation that the reprogramming was successful. Pull the resetter straight back from the cartridge and the job is done.

If the flashing red light fails to start or if it doesn't change to the solid green light after about 5 seconds, there is a problem. The batteries may be low or the cartridge chip may be faulty. Chips are sometimes damaged by static electricity, sharp impact, or ?. In some cases, ink or skin oils on the face of the printed circuit board block parts of the data transfer. The printed circuit board face may be gently cleaned with alcohol.

Standard adapter:

Included with every resetter is a cast plastic adapter. This adapter is needed only when resetting the C80/C82/CX5200 type catridges which have no useable guiding contours. Insert the adapter tab into the slot in the face of the resetter as shown in the picture below. Most cartridges will not use the guide, but the T032 /T034 types will need it.

QE368 battery replacement:

Remove the 2 small phillips head screws that hold the back cover plate, and remove the back cover plate. Apply careful pressure to the contact pins pushing then straight back through the holes in the main plastic body, until the entire electronic assembly lifts out. Looking at the pin side of the printed circuit board, you can see the 3 battery holders mounted directly to the printed circuit board (see the image below). With a narrow instrument similar to a small screwdriver (but preferably one that is not an electrical conductor) push each battery sideways through the opening in the battery holder. Insert the fresh batteries with the flat side up. That is the side with the lettering and the side that will read positive on a volt meter. Carefully guide the contact pins back through the 7 holes in the main plastic body until the main electronic assembly is correctly positioned. Replace the back cover and the 2 small phillips head screws.

Notes:

The circuitry turns itself off when finished. Holding it in place for a longer period of time will have no further effect. It also will do no harm. If you separate them too soon, there will be no damage, but the chip will not be reprogrammed.

The new ink levels will not show up on the monitor display utility until the cartridge is returned to its home position at the right side of the printer.

The 7 gold pins that extend from the front of the resetter have been carefully positioned. Avoid dragging them sideways against other objects including the face of the ink cartridge. If they are bent they might not make contact with the ink cartridge at the correct spot.

It doesn't really matter to the chip or to the resetter whether you reset the chip first and then refill the cartridge or the other way around. However, since it is theoretically cleaner to handle and manipulate an empty cartridge than one that has just been filled with ink, it makes more sense to reset the chip before refilling the cartridge.

Store the resetter in the box that it came in or a similar container. Do not let metal objects remain in contact with the 7 contact pins. They are electrically active and if shorted out will deplete the battery.
